1970 ERF 50' Pump Hydraulic Platform.

This picture shows the third model I've converted into appliances once used by the City of York Fire Brigade from around 1970 in the yellow livery from the period.
The model is of a 1970 ERF/84PFS-HCB Angus-Simon SS50 PHP (Pump Hydraulic Platform) in use until 1980 with the North Yorkshire Fire Brigade.
The actual ERF model was of a pump escape in 1.76 scale but no makers name so this is unknown to me.The back end has been totally scratch built around the original model with plastikard, also the booms required major work using various bits and pieces. On the roof, again a major makeover including the re-setting of blue lights to the side of cab,new bell and two-tones to roof also had to be done.It was not the easiest of models to make, but I'm very pleased with it.The most difficult one though I'm working on now,and thats of the 1960 Bedford Emergency Tender of the old City of York Fire Brigade.

Unusual conversion, but it looks like a Pete Matten job to me !

Thankyou Bob,yes its one of my conversions.Yes, its a slightly unusual conversion but York had this type of ERF/PHP appliance and I've decided to try and make models of their yellow appliances and then I might try and make a model of the old fire station which very soon will be sadly gone and replaced by a much smaller station.

see Fire Engine Photos site #23268 for the ERF 84PFS/Jennings PHP 50' XDN 494J. In 1980 it was exported to Carlow, Ireland. No HCB-A plate on the front.

A picture of this actual York appliance is now on the fire engine photos site(picture 23268).

It's a very nice conversion Pete but to me those wheels (I assume they are original) really let it down. Some proper ERF pattern wheels would finish it off nicely - Road Transport Images do a suitable set. I'm not criticising your work (far from it) but merely making a hopefully useful suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestion Adam, this is already in hand to be done.I will check-out that Road Transport Images site though to find out whats available.

Looking good Pete, I have a picture of this appliance in red in Ireland but don't have the copyright so can't post it.

I have one of these ERFs, mine is still a pump escape though. The model in original form is a London Fire Brigade ERF/ ERF Jennings PE. Dinky did a model in I think 1:43 scale and these small versions may be a smaller scale copy made in China. I got mine at the 2009 Odiham Fire Show for £2, the stall holder had about three for sale, there was also a nice model railway display at the show and that had a pair of these mysterious ERFs attending a multi pump shout at a mill fire.

I have the original pump escape model in my collection. It was one of four fire engine models released in the early eighties by this manufacturer. It was only UK appliance in the line-up. According to Ed Force's book (Miniature Emergency Vehicles, published by Schiffer) the maker was S.M. of Hong Kong. The other three vehicles resemble a Japanese turntable ladder, with twin front axle, a similar configured airport-style crash truck and a covered, open sided pump. They were released in 1982.
