Ga-Day mate and welcome from all us pommies.I do like that 1.76 scale fire station Graham and like Bob would also like to see the others when you've time please. I'm sure also our train spotters on the site would like to see your layout, it looks good.
I think this model is one of those thin-cardboard models already to make up, but, I could be wrong.I really do think though its rather nice, and one I'd not seen before.Maybe Graham will get back to us with a little more information such as make/cost, etc.
Well spotted Mr Willey, I've just had a look and its certainly the Superquick model and must say its a brilliant conversion.Well done to our Australian friend, Mr Dickens.
Well gentlemen, thank you very much for your kind comments. I have been watching your excellent modelling skills for some time now and believe me, I have certainly learned some things. I know Bob & Pete have a very keen eye for detail, so forgive the Rego plates on my models, but I had to use anything I could get my hands on. Stevie, it is 2 Superquick Card kits joined together, (Police Station/Library). I will post the first kit which gave me a 3-bay station with a very old Airfix 2-bay station on the same site, but as these Oxford Hornby models became available, I removed the Airfix kit (not a very good model) and built a second Superquick kit to make a 6-bay County Fire Station. Now all I have to do is build a Drill Tower between the station "on the right side" and the firemen's houses. To accommodate the new model fire trucks required extending the rear of the bays to get them in. This had to be done on the other 2 City fire stations (will post them later). All the original fire trucks were 1:78 scale - E.R.F./Corgi. Lesney, Husky, Matchbox & Wiking - all rebuilt conversions by me over the years. I have recently put together a Fleet List of all the original Fire Trucks you will see on the next photographs I will post. If you like, I will post this list too, it is quite a comprehensive list. Graham, Australia
Hi Graham, one thing I look forward to seeing is maybe a conversion you may have done of a typical Australian station and appliances. At this time I've made two typical country(volunteer bush brigades)stations, one is a typical Vic/NSW station, and the other copied from a photograph is from Tasmania.Fire appliances for display with these Australian models are all conversions using Base Toys model trucks, typical of the appliances used back in the 50's, 60's and 1970's era. Looking forward to seeing your models, but I'll send a picture in of one of my Aussie stations, totally scratch-built and await comments, etc.Pete.
Hi Bob, first you will probably have noticed a mistake in my previous note, 1:78 scale should have read 1:87 scale, sorry. The Airfix fire station was a conversion from a 1960's Airport Control Tower kit, I think. I have only seen 1 fire station kit done in a very thin paper of a UK 1950's station. I used the Drill Tower for 1 of my Superquick fire stations - picture to follow. I will also send pictures of my model conversions later. Graham
Hi Pete. Sorry I have never built an Australian Fire Station, but I have built an Austin Pump 1950/1960's and a CFA Tanker. Will post them for you later, but first I will post the other 5 stations on my layout. Most country fire stations here are tin sheds with 1 or 2 bays. I have a photograph of my local station of the 1950's I can send to you. Will it be OK on this Modelling site, or will I have to send it on the other site? Graham
