This picture shows a model of the Amberley Fire Station which actually opened during the Amberley Working Museum Fire Show in the summer of 2008.
Some years ago the Museum was approached about having a fire station built from the 1950's period at the Museum, money though was not available for such a project and the only way to get the project under way was from donations from the general public.
Over a period of time as money slowly came in,the floor was layed, brickwork was completed and finally the roof went on.All this work being carried out by volunteers, and enthusiasts. The actual wooden doors originate from the old Bognor Regis Fire Station, when it closed in 1976 they were used at West Sussex Fire Brigade workshops at Tangmere. When this closed,Amberley managed to salvage them for the newly built 1950's style fire station constructed at the museum.
The models are from LLEDO and are from their'DAYS GONE'series of fire appliances.I've duplicated the actual appliances that are on display at the Amberley Museum Fire Station, which I understand are on permanent loan to the Museum. One is actually owned by WSFB Charities, the other still being privately owned.
Both the real WSFB Dennis F8 WrT's that are in preservation now at the Museum can be seen on this site.Take a look at the following pictures(picture 4845)or(picture 4881)on the fire engine site.
This model when finally finished will be donated to the Amberley Working Museum for display in the new 1950's style Amberley Fire Station.
Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.
