No: 889 Contributor: Pete Matten Scale: 1/76 Year: 2010 Manufacturer: Scratch built Country: United Kingdom
This picture shows a typical 1920's village fire brigade with their Shand-Mason horsedrawn steamer and the stations hosecart proudly on display for that perfect picture. Also typical of the period was the popular wheeled escape which would be man handled to the fire but not shown in this picture.
This scratch-built 1/76th scale model is based on my village's original fire station dating back to the 1920's and reproduced from photographs from the period.
The actual models show a hose cart, this being made from the the carriage and wheels from that Lledo Dennis Pump Escape which I recently converted to a pump, and the Shand Mason horsedrawn steamer is also from Lledo but with afew major add-ons and changes,ie, different horse, hose, handrails and a new paint job, and lets not forget the tranfers.
I have for along time been meaning to get around to making this type of period model, and must say I'm now glad I finally got around to it.

Thanks Bob.This model fire station and appliances I've just made over the last couple of weeks now that the Amberley ones been finally finished. All the stations I have in Kit form or Scratch built are in the 1/76th scale, and are actually of foreign countries,ie,France,Germany,Austria,America,Australia,Luxemburg, etc,I will though this year try and build afew scratch built British ones.
I've just started on my next which will be a turn of the century(Circa 1900)city station for those 2 Lledo pump escape and pump convertions I done recently. This will then be followed by a larger LFB station for those Corgi Dennis F12's and the Oxford Leyland Turntable Ladder.Pete.
